"COUGAR: {Fr., earlier cuguacuarana, apparently for Tupi sucuarana, lit., false deer, from sussu, deer, and rana, false: so named from its color,} a tawny-brown animal (Felis concolor) of the cat family, with a long, slender body and a long tail, found from Canada to Patagonia. It is known by various other names, as puma, panther, catamount and mountain lion. "

-----Webster's New Twentieth Century Unabridged Dictionary, Second Edition

Bianca is a South American Cougar

Cougars range from three feet to six feet long and weigh between sixty and two hundred pounds. The males are larger than the females. Cougars do not roar like Lions and Tigers, they purr and are classified as a small cat. Cougar cubs are heavily spotted. They stay with their mothers up until two years of age. They don't reach full maturity until they are three to five years old. Their main diet is deer and rabbits although they are known to eat smaller birds and insects.

The first European settlers thought the Cougar was a Lion, but couldn't understand what happened to its mane!

Cougars can live well in environments of conifer forests as well as swamps.
