The topic: Fish
How do you get rid of a fish that you hate? I've got a plecostomous in my tank that ate most of my little fish. I want that plecosto gone, but I can't bring myself to just pull it out of the tank and let it die.
I thought about putting it in a container and leaving it in front of a petstore or a grocery store with a sign "Plecostomous, free to good home".
I don't want to put an ad in the paper and have people come to my house. I want this damned fish to be someone else's problem. I want to be rid of it.
So, how do I get rid of it and not get saddled with a bunch of guilt? :(

"Fountains" (sp?) aquarium store on University in La Mesa will take it, I had a friend that was moving and they took all her fish for her.

I'd really like to get some more colorful fish than I've got. I spent all that money last year on new fish and I'm down to three and that damned plecosto. Petco & PetSmart weren't interested. Fountains it is. Next week.
I hate that fish.

My friend has lots of experience with keeping fish, and he reckons that a plecosto is "vegetarian". We wonder if you've mis-identified it and it's taking the blame for another culprit, poor thing :hehe: . xx

I asked at the petstore and that's what they told me. That he gets the little fish when they sleep at night. They just disappeared and there were too many of them for me not to have found them somewhere. :angry:Posted by lisaviolet @ 05/12/2005 01:10 PM PDT
I've never known a Plecostomus to eat other fish. They are vegetarians and love a diet of green peas (popped out of their skin). If by chance you have an algae eater, they can be nasty characters. Plecos are usually big and dark where algae eaters are slim and beige/brown.

This is what he looks like: pleco.And those little fish went somewhere. There were never any floaters, never found any bones, they just were gone. He might not have meant to eat them, but I'm sure he had something to do with there disappearance.

Do a search of pet stores, we have a couple here in town that will take fish and give store credit. You might consider getting a chocolate albino pleco, they only get to 8" and are safer around small fish. The others are vegetarians, but the bigger the fish, the bigger the stomach (and mouth) in the fish. I did some online searching for my tanks and they suggested keeping big fish with the bigger plecos.
